Our Mission

The primary reason for the current investors to become involved with El Cortijo was because we all wanted to give something back to a community that provides a meeting place for many of us, a meeting place that also has a friendly bar with helpful staff most of whom are also part of that community.

Our Plans

We will be starting a small farm area and will utilise the old lion pens to keep our own chickens, turkeys, pigs and maybe a few other animals,We are currently applying for a license to use our own eggs in the kitchen and to sell any surplus in the shop.

We have employed a full-time gardener and one of his responsibilities will be to start a small-holding area where we can grow our own vegetables and fruit, and we will be having some fun with other growing techniques like Aquaponics.

Our plans for the future include developing some of the land into allotments which can be hired for a minimal charge, and with a gardener on site to help anyone who needs it, the return and expansion of a local shop selling a range of products imported from international suppliers, locally made organic fruit juices, locally made honey and a variety of oils made on the site, or imported from confirmed organic sites, together with produce grown on the allotments.

We hope to expand the range of services available to visitors and to businesses who are looking for artisan type premises where they can work in a friendly rural environment, but all of that will involve negotiations with the local town hall because El Cortijo is actually listed as a farm with a licence for a bar and a restaurant, so expanding that restriction may prove to be challenging but we will try. .

All of this is important, but community is the reason we started this, so that must always be in the forefront of anything we do, so there will be more live music evenings, the Auction will be back for their regular fortnightly slot and if a member of the community needs to hold a private function we will be happy to help in any way we can. We live in the center of one of the world’s largest wine areas, so we will try to arrange taster evening and visits to local bodega’s.

Eating @ El Cortijo

We want to develop, and hopefully expand, a restaurant that will become known for its diverse food and theme nights celebrating the food of the country we have all chosen to live in, but also the food of other countries that maybe we haven’t visited, whilst holding onto our own backgrounds so there will always be a core menu most of us have grown up with!
